Why Guru Pooja Before POWERFUL INITIATIONS?
Sadguru: Shodashopachara, which is another name for the Guru Pooja, is not about flowers, fruit, and coconut. This is a subtle process, a subtle mechanism for creating a certain energy geometry that naturally draws certain types of forces.
There are quite a few disembodied Gurus.
They are freelancers: not committed to anyone’s growth or wellbeing, but if they notice something, they will contribute a little. Freelancing means that you are not willing to commit, but you may still be good at certain things and do them here and there, just not as a committed job.
These disembodied Gurus have energy and intelligence, but no intellect, no discrimination, and no ability to decide whether to do something or not. They simply go where they are drawn, and there they “explode.” It is like nature, wind blows toward low pressure. That is all. It is not a question of whether what is happening is good or bad. Where there is low pressure, they simply go.
When we offer Guru Pooja before initiation processes in our programs, we try to contain it as much as possible because we want to initiate people and send them home. If we had no such obligation, we would do Guru Pooja in a completely different way. In certain Shoonya initiations, we conducted Guru Poojas in which I lost my sense of that obligation.
We did one such initiation in Tiruchengode, a small town in Tamil Nadu. We were conducting the initiation, and during Guru Pooja, a whole bunch of disembodied Gurus descended. There were just over 130 to 140 people in the initiation. Boom, boom, boom, everyone just went into different states.
Guru Pooja had happened somewhere around 12:30 or 1 o’clock, and by 6 o’clock in the evening, we were still tending to people, bringing them back to normal one by one. We could not proceed with the Shoonya initiation that day, so we did it on Monday morning.
When all of these disembodied Gurus were drawn in by the Guru Pooja and descended, at least 90 percent of the people were affected, except for about 10 percent who were “immune.” Everyone else was crawling on the ground.
Shoonya initiations used to be like this: at least 80 percent of the people had to be literally carried out of the initiation room, their energy contact with me was so intense. That is why a tradition developed, on initiation day, we always ensured that there were at least twice as many volunteers as participants, because you need two people for each participant just to carry them out of the room. This used to be a normal part of the process. Then we made it contained and controlled.
